In the Netherlands, au pairs receive around β¬340 per month in pocket money: it’s the maximum monthly stipend allowed under Dutch law.
This is separate from the free accommodation and meals provided by the host family.
In addition to pocket money, families can also contribute to support: an Ov-card for transport, activities, a gym membership, a museum card, or language courses, bringing the average monthly cost for families to around β¬500 per month. Especially European candidates will expect a bit extra on top of the monthly pocket money.

Health insurance is the au pair’s responsibility. Cost differ per country and per company: In the Netherlands healthcare insurance is fully covered by the Dutch Government, but this diff3re per country.
We recommend working with, for example, Dr Walter: they have a βYoung backpack, Au pair travel insuranceβ that includes dental, with a good price/quality balance.
Monthly basic expenses include
As the au pair does not receive a high pocket money, itβs kind to help a bit with a small extra. β¨This is optional, but it can help to find a great match as well
Or other benefits to help your au pair feel more comfortable and welcome during their stay.
The aftercare, contract and visa support package at β¬500 is optional, but Nina.care is an au pair Agency, meaning we cover not just the search of your au pair, but we are there for you during rematch, registration, visa and contract questions.
Arrange your au pair without missing anything with the β¬68 per month membership during the term.
We recommend host families to pay 50% of the flightβ¨β¨There is no legal rule in the Netherlands about who must pay for the au pairβs flight ticket. However, as the cultural exchange is a win-win and the pocket money is not high, itβs kind to help the young candidate with 50%.
Some host families cover the full ticket, which is very nice. We as agency do favour some commitment and investment from the aupair as well.
Note: For candidates from the Philippines the host family covers both arrival and departure flights.
The pocket money is paid directly by the host family to the au pair.
Once the au pair arrives in the host country, it is important that they open a local bank account so the monthly payments can be transferred easily. For candidates from the EU, it is often not necessary to open a local bank account.
There is always a small risk that a match does not work out as expected. To reduce this risk, our after care package includes an alignment meeting between the host family and the au pair before the start of the placement. During this meeting, important topics such as the start date, pocket money, vacation days, weekly schedule, and expectations are discussed to make sure everyone is on the same page.
If the match still does not work out, there is a transition period of 2β4 weeks during which both the host family and the au pair can look for a new match or decide on the next steps.
When Premium Matching Service families have an actie βAftercare packageβ at moment of rematch, we will find them a new candidate without extra costs.
