In Australia, au pairs are typically paid according to minimum wage rules, depending on the type of agreement with the host family. Based on an average of 30 hours per week, the base pay is calculated from the national minimum wage.
Host families usually provide free accommodation and meals, and the cost of room and board can be taken into account when agreeing on the final pocket money amount. After these deductions, au pairs commonly receive around $300–$400 per week in pocket money, bringing the average monthly cost for families to around $1000.
Some families also choose to contribute toward transport, activities, or language courses, which can slightly increase the monthly total.
