In France, au pairs typically receive around €320 per month in pocket money, paid directly to them by the host family.
The host family also provides free accommodation and meals, which are part of the standard au pair arrangement.
Some families may offer additional support such as public transport or language classes, resulting in an average monthly cost of about €400.
If you are a buys parent and would like to receive 3 great, matching and responsive candidates, Matching service is for you. No stress, we do all the work for you. We reserve a pool of the best candidates for our Matching Service host families
With the membership (self match), you can find your au pair yourself. You can chat unlimited with the different candidates, except for the ones reserved for Premium users.
• Self match: Yes, you can cancel your membership at any time.
It will remain active until the end of the current billing period, and you will continue to have access to your profile and chats until then.
• The Matching Service can also be cancelled if you no longer need assistance for any reason, but it’s a success fee: We commit to finding your au pair and will share several rounds of candidates until we do.
• The Aftercare Package remains active for the full duration of your au pair’s stay with your family.

In France, health insurance is generally arranged and covered by the host family. The host family must register the au pair with the French social security system (Sécurité Sociale), which provides access to the public healthcare system.
For au pairs from EU/EEA countries, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) may provide partial coverage, although additional insurance is often recommended. For non-EU au pairs, private health insurance is usually required before arrival and is commonly covered or arranged by the host family.
We recommend working with providers such as Dr. Walter, which offers a “Young Backpack / Au Pair Travel Insurance” package including dental coverage, with a good price–quality balance.
Monthly basic expenses include
1. Au pair’s pocket money: +- €320 p/m
2. Food and accommodation: provided by host
As the au pair does not receive a high pocket money, it’s kind to help a bit with small extra.
This is optional, but can help to find a great match as well
• Travel allowance: €75 p/m
• Phone plan: €25 p/m
• Gym membership: €40 p/m
• Museum card or cinema card: €30 p/m
Or other benefits to help your au pair feel more comfortable and welcome during their stay.
The aftercare, contract and visa support package at €68 per month has thesame price as the self match Membership: it’s recommended to keep it running throughout your au pair term to avoid stress and allow your au pair access to the au pair community and support.
It’s optional, but Nina.care is an au pair Agency, meaning we cover not just the search of your au pair, but we are there for you during rematch, registration, visa and contract questions.
Arrange your au pair without missing anything and continue the €68 per month membership during the term.
There is no specific legal rule in France regarding who must pay for the au pair’s arrival and departure flights.
We recommend host families to contribute to the travel costs, for example by covering 50% of the flight ticket. As the au pair exchange is a mutual cultural experience and the pocket money is limited, this support is often greatly appreciated.
Some host families choose to cover the full flight ticket, which is of course very generous. At the same time, we believe it is positive for the au pair to also contribute personally to the experience and investment.
Please note that agreements regarding travel expenses should always be discussed and confirmed clearly before the start of the au pair stay.
The pocket money is paid directly by the host family to the au pair.
Once the au pair arrives in the host country, it is important that they open a local bank account so the monthly payments can be transferred easily. For candidates from the EU, it is often not necessary to open a local bank account.
There is always a small risk that a match does not work out as expected. To reduce this risk, our after care package includes an alignment meeting between the host family and the au pair before the start of the placement. During this meeting, important topics such as the start date, pocket money, vacation days, weekly schedule, and expectations are discussed to make sure everyone is on the same page.
If the match still does not work out, there is a transition period of 2–4 weeks during which both the host family and the au pair can look for a new match or decide on the next steps.
When Premium Matching Service families have an actie “Aftercare package” at moment of rematch, we will find them a new candidate without extra costs.
