In Germany, au pairs usually receive a set amount of pocket money each month which is €280 per month directly paid to the au pair. This is separate from the free room and meals that host families provide during the stay.
Families also contribute up to €70 per month toward a language course. Other optional costs can include a public transport pass, a phone plan, or occasional additional babysitting. Because of this, the total monthly cost for families comes to an average of €420 per month, depending on what additional support is included.
