Filipino Au Pair Procedures in the Netherlands Suspended From July 2026

The Philippine Embassy in The Hague has announced a major update that will affect Filipino au pair placements in the Netherlands from July 1, 2026 onwards.

According to the Embassy, the notarisation of au pair contracts involving Philippine nationals will be temporarily suspended while the Philippine Government reviews its deployment guidelines for au pairs in Europe.

This decision may create uncertainty and delays for Dutch host families and agencies currently planning placements with Filipino au pairs.

What exactly is changing?

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Philippine Embassy in the Netherlands will suspend the notarisation of au pair contracts for Filipino nationals. Without notarisation, new Filipino au pairs will not be able to complete the required procedures to enter the Netherlands under the au pair program.

The Embassy stated that the suspension is part of an ongoing governmental review focused on:

  • improving protection mechanisms for Filipino au pairs,
  • addressing reported issues experienced in the Netherlands,
  • and ensuring compliance with both Philippine and Dutch regulations.

At this moment, no timeline has been communicated regarding when the review process will be completed.

Temporary limitations until June 30, 2026

Before the suspension takes effect, the Embassy introduced temporary restrictions for processing contracts.

From May 28 until June 30, 2026:

  • each au pair agency is limited to five processing slots per day,
  • only host families with at least one Dutch parent are eligible,
  • contracts must be submitted physically at the Embassy,
  • and processing remains strictly appointment-based.

The Embassy also confirmed that incomplete documentation or inconsistencies in contracts may lead to immediate rejection and rescheduling.

These limitations are expected to significantly reduce processing capacity during the final weeks before the suspension begins.

What this means for Dutch host families

Families who were considering a Filipino au pair may now face:

  • longer waiting times,
  • uncertainty around visa timelines,
  • reduced candidate availability,
  • and increased dependency on embassy processing capacity.

For many families, this creates challenges when childcare support is needed within a predictable timeframe.

Why more families are considering European au pairs

At Nina.care, we exclusively work with European au pairs. As a result, our host families are currently not affected by the new Philippine Embassy measures.

For many Dutch families, a European au pair program offers several practical advantages:

  • faster procedures,
  • less dependency on embassy processes,
  • clear European regulations,
  • lower overall costs,
  • and directly available candidates.

European au pairs can often start the process more quickly, which provides greater predictability for families planning childcare and household support.
