In the UAE, au pair arrangements are typically agreed privately between the host family and the au pair. Most au pairs receive between $775 and $1500 per month in pocket money, depending on experience, working hours, and responsibilities.
Host families also provide free accommodation, meals, and often health insurance during the stay.
Because of these included benefits, the average monthly cost for families is around $1500, though this can vary depending on additional support such as transport or leisure allowances.

In the UAE, host families are legally required to provide health insurance for their au pair, as they are considered the sponsoring employer under the kafala system. This applies in all emirates, though the minimum coverage requirements may differ slightly between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and other regions. Au pairs should confirm the scope of the policy provided and may wish to arrange supplemental coverage if needed.
Monthly basic expenses include
1. Au pairβs pocket money: $1500 p/m
2. Food and accommodation: provided by host
As the au pair does not receive a high pocket money, itβs kind to help a bit with small extra. β¨This is optional, but can help to find a great match as well
β’ Travel allowance: $150 p/m
β’ Phone plan: $75 p/m
β’ Gym membership: $150 p/m
β’ Cnema card or activity voucher: $100 p/m
Or other benefits to help your au pair feel more comfortable and welcome during their stay.
The aftercare, contract and visa support package at $190 per month has thesame price as the self match Membership: itβs recommended to keep it running throughout your au pair term to avoid stress and allow your au pair access to the au pair community and support.β¨β¨Itβs optional, but Nina.care is an au pair Agency, meaning we cover not just the search of your au pair, but we are there for you during rematch, registration, visa and contract questions.
Arrange your au pair without missing anything and continue the $190 per month membership during the term.
In the UAE, it is standard practice, and in many cases expected, for the sponsoring host family to cover the au pair’s arrival flight, given their role as employer under the kafala system. Return flights are typically also covered, though this can vary. We recommend that all travel cost arrangements are discussed and confirmed in the placement agreement before the au pair departs their home country, to avoid any misunderstanding upon arrival or departure.
The pocket money is paid directly by the host family to the au pair.
Once the au pair arrives in the host country, it is important that they open a local bank account so the monthly payments can be transferred easily. For candidates from the EU, it is often not necessary to open a local bank account.
There is always a small risk that a match does not work out as expected. To reduce this risk, our after care package includes an alignment meeting between the host family and the au pair before the start of the placement. During this meeting, important topics such as the start date, pocket money, vacation days, weekly schedule, and expectations are discussed to make sure everyone is on the same page.
If the match still does not work out, there is a transition period of 2β4 weeks during which both the host family and the au pair can look for a new match or decide on the next steps.
When Premium Matching Service families have an actie βAftercare packageβ at moment of rematch, we will find them a new candidate without extra costs.
