Being an au pair in the United Arab Emirates offers a unique experience that blends modern family life with deep cultural traditions. Families in the UAE often live in dynamic, international cities, where daily routines balance school schedules, family time, and a fast-paced environment.
As an au pair, you’ll support your host family with childcare while learning how family life works in a multicultural setting influenced by both local customs and global lifestyles. Respect, trust, and clear communication are important parts of daily life. Read more about what an au pair is here.
Living with a host family in the UAE allows you to gain insight into a culture that values hospitality, structure, and strong family bonds while also offering access to world-class infrastructure, safety, and opportunities to grow personally and professionally. 🏙️✨
Pocket Money Range:
Around AED 2,000 per month, depending on your hours and duties.
Additional Benefits:
Rent-free accommodation with your own private bedroom
Meals included
Some families may also offer extras like:
Covering local transport costs
A phone SIM or transport card
Paid holiday time
Health or accident insurance contributions
Since there is no official national au pair pocket money rule in the UAE, it’s important to clearly discuss and agree on pocket money and benefits with your host family before confirming a match. Every family’s offer may differ, so having everything agreed in writing is strongly recommended.

The standard arrangement in the UAE is 25–30 hours per week. You must have at least one full day off per week, as well as time for rest, exploring, study, or social activities.
For longer placements, around 30 days of paid holiday per year is commonly expected.
An au pair in the UAE mainly helps with childcare, such as:
School drop-offs and pick-ups
Playing with the children
Babysitting
Homework support
You may also help with light household duties related to the children, including:
Tidying children’s rooms
Doing children’s laundry
Preparing simple meals for the children
You are not expected to do heavy cleaning, gardening, or work as a professional nanny.
Yes. In the UAE, a written, government-approved employment contract is required. This contract should clearly outline your duties, working hours, pocket money, holiday entitlement, insurance, and termination terms.
Having a clear contract helps avoid misunderstandings and is often required when arranging your visa.
Age Requirements:
Usually 18–60 years old, depending on nationality
Visa Requirements:
The UAE does not have an official “au pair visa”
Au pairs are sponsored as domestic workers under a UAE domestic worker residence visa
These visas are typically issued for 2 years and are renewable
Health insurance is mandatory and must be provided for the full stay
You must live with the host family and be provided with a private bedroom

You can find host families through online platforms or au pair agencies. Agencies can be especially helpful in the UAE, as they assist with contracts, insurance, and visa requirements.
At Nina.care, we help you find a suitable host family and provide additional support throughout your stay.
If issues arise, you should first try open and direct communication with your host family. If the situation cannot be resolved, the agreement can usually be ended with reasonable notice (commonly 2 weeks).
If you matched through an agency, they can help mediate and support you in finding a replacement family if needed.

The weekly schedule is a valuable guide to help you understand your tasks and responsibilities throughout the week. While it provides structure, it isn’t fixed.
With clear, timely communication, it can be adjusted whenever you or your host family have any changes or commitments.
Having a schedule not only sets expectations but also helps prevent misunderstandings. From our experience, many challenges arise simply because no plan was put in place.
That’s why we offer this template, to support smooth communication and a positive experience between you and your host family.
